Haiti Fund

On Saturday, August 14, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the southwest portion of Haiti. This devastating earthquake was followed by Tropical Storm Grace on Monday night and much of Tuesday. More than 1 million people, including more than half a million children, have been impacted by the back-to-back disasters, and the death toll is close to 2000. Episcopal Relief & Development and its partners are responding immediately with direct assistance to vulnerable households in the region, as partners plan long-term recovery. Your generous gift can provide assistance to help people in the wake of these disasters. To assist in these efforts, visit episcopalrelief.org/haiti-relief.

Blessing of Teachers and Students at Joint Service, Sunday, August 29th

With the beginning of school later this month, Zion Lutheran and Church of the Reconciliation would like to send our youth and children off with our well wishes and blessings.

Join us for a joint worship service on Sunday, August 29, at 10:00 AM at Church of the Reconciliation. Please have your child bring their backpack for a backpack blessing.

Blessings in a Backpack

This past July, Zion Lutheran and COR collected backpacks and school supplies for local children.

Thank you to all who donated and contributed to this wonderful cause!

Original Post:

Let’s help a child start the school year feeling confident and prepared.

Throughout July we are seeking contributions of sturdy plain colored backpacks for older students and styles suitable for those in the primary grades.

Volunteers at the Oxford Ecumenical Food Shelf will fill them with the supplies requested by their teachers.

Items requested for elementary pupils are: markers, glue sticks, scissors, colored pencils, crayons, pocket folders and dry erase markers.

Needs for secondary pupils include: 3 subject notebooks, binders, filler paper, composition books, pens, red pens, pencil sharpeners and highlighters.

Families that are struggling to outfit their children with clothes and shoes for school are deeply appreciative to have assistance with ever increasing school supply lists.
